Guru Granth Sahib

Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the religious text of Sikhism. It is a voluminous text of 1430 angs compiled and composed during the period of Sikh gurus from 1469 to 1708. It is a collection of hymns (shabad) or baani describing the qualities of God and why one should meditate on God's name. Guru Gobind Singh (16661708) the tenth guru affirmed the sacred text Adi Granth as his successor elevating it to Guru Granth Sahib. The text remains the holy scripture of the Sikhs regarded as the teachings of the Ten Gurus. The role of Adi Granth as a source or guide of prayer is pivotal in worship in Sikhism.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Guru Nanak Dev Ji (Saturday 15 April 1469 - Monday 22 September 1539) the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Gurus of the Sikhs was born in the village of Talwandi. Also called Rai Bhoe-ki Talwandi the village now known as Nankana Sahib is near Lahore in Pakistan. He was born according to all ancient Sikh records in the early morning of the third day of the light half of the month of Baisakh in the year 1469; this is believed to be Saturday 15 April 1469. the Sikhs now celebrate this auspicious event each year on the full moon day in November the date in November changes from one year to another.

Guru Angad Dev Ji

Guru Angad Dev Sahib Ji (31 March 1504 – 28 March 1552) was the Second of the Ten Sikh Guru Ji'. He was born in the village of Sarae Naga in Muktsar District in Punjab, on 31 March 1504 and given the Name Lehna shortly after His Birth as was the custom of His Hindu parents. He was the Son of a Small Successful Trader named Pheru Mal. His Mother' Name was Mata Ramo Ji (also known as Mata Sabhirai Ji, Mansa Devi Ji and Daya kaur Ji). Baba Narayan Das Ji Trehan was His Grandfather, whose ancestral house was at Matte-di-Sarai near Mukatsar.

Guru Amar Das Ji

Guru Amar Das (5 May 1479 – 1 September 1574) was the third of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism and was given the title of Sikh Guru on 26 March 1552. Guru Amar Das was the eldest son of Sri Tej Bhan Bhalla , a farmer and trader, and Mata Lachmi .The Guru's father was a shopkeeper in the village of Basarke near Amritsar.

Guru Ram Das Ji

Guru Ram Das (Friday October 9 1534 - Saturday 16 September 1581) was the fourth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism and became Guru on Monday 16 September 1574 following in the footsteps of Guru Amar Das ji. The Guru's original name was Bhai Jetha. Before Guru Ji died, he nominated his youngest son as the next Guru of the Sikhs - Guru Arjan Dev.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji

Guru Arjan Dev Ji (Sunday May 2 1563 - Monday June 16 1606) was the fifth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism, who became Guru on 16 September 1581 following in the footsteps of Guru Ram Das ji. He was born in Goindval Punjab India the youngest son of Guru Ram Das and Bibi Bhani, the daughter of Guru Amar Das.

Guru Har Gobind Ji

Guru Har Gobind ji (Saturday, 5 July 1595 - Tuesday, 19 March 1644) was the sixth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism. He became Guru on 11 June 1606 following in the footsteps of his father Guru Arjan Dev ji. While the ceremonial rites were being performed by Baba Buddha ji, Guru Hargobind ji asked Baba Buddha to adorn him with a sword rather than the Seli of Nanak which had been used previously by the earlier Gurus.
